About Us
The Colonial Fence Story
Colonial Fence had its beginning in 1974 in Millis, MA., and since that time has gone through many changes but our one goal to build truly superior wood fence has never changed.
In the beginning we purchased material from large wholesale distributors, each with different manufacturing standards. Dissatisfied with the available quality, we opened our own small shop in Bellingham, MA in 1978, and began to build a reputation as one of the premier wood fence companies in New England.
By the mid-1980's, Colonial Fence was specializing in a variety of custom cedar products, moving ahead of the industry in quality standards, fence design techniques and fence installation practices.
In 1990 we moved to Southborough, MA and continued to grow steadily. Throughout the 90’s, we supplied the public and fence contractors with what had become the standard of quality by which all other cedar fence was measured.
By the end of the century a different type of product was starting to emerge as a viable fence product, vinyl (PVC), which was used widely in the siding and window markets.
We at Colonial Fence watched this with some interest, but the only products we saw on the market we considered by our standards to be very low quality.
By 2001 the quality of vinyl extrusions had improved greatly, and Colonial Fence decided it was time to move forward with our own line of high quality vinyl fence and garden products. The response was overwhelming and by the spring of 2003 we saw the need to expand. It was also a time that saw the next generation taking a serious interest in preserving the family business. In the spring of 2004 we opened our new, state-of-the-art 18,000 sq. ft. facility on 6 acres in Norfolk, MA, giving us the largest manufacturing capacity of wood and vinyl fence in the area. As a family we are committed to the same founding principle to build truly superior fences one customer at a time and that one simple approach has worked well, earning us a sound reputation for total customer service and satisfaction.
Thank you for considering Colonial Fence.
The Brown Family
Manufacturing
Colonial Fence is one of the largest and oldest family-owned fence manufacturers in New England. Our 35+ years' experience, blended with traditional techniques, modern CNC routing, and CAD design capabilities combine to give our products many years of service and beauty.
One of the most challenging aspects of delivering a product worthy of your home is selecting the appropriate raw materials. Unfortunately, there is no standard for wood and vinyl fence. Each company has its own quality rating. At Colonial Fence we use only the finest 100% mono-extruded virgin vinyl on our vinyl fence line, and we purchase the finest white and red cedar materials for our wood fencing.
For those of you who like to touch and feel things before making such an important decision for your home, we invite you to visit our extensive, brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Norfolk with its outdoor patio displays and indoor showroom. The trip often eliminates any possibility of confusion, solidifies your expectations and allows you to tell us exactly what you're looking for in person. We’re happy to discuss any challenges your project may hold and help you finalize your choices. And since our workshop is open to the public, you can talk directly to the folks who will actually work on your project. Experience has shown that a trip to Colonial Fence can prove invaluable for getting what you want.
